In recent days, a seemingly random group of individuals has emerged with what can only be described as “special” abilities.
Although unaware of it now, these individuals will not only save the world, but change it forever. This transformation from ordinary to extraordinary will not occur overnight.
Every story has a beginning.
volume One of their epic tale begins here…
STORYLINE:
Mohinder Voice-Over:
We hear Mohinder telling us about the human nature.
Peter’s Dream Sequence:
We see Peter Petrelli letting himself fall from a high building. Just before the camera makes contact with the floor, it pans upwards.
New York City, Peter Petrelli & Simone Deveaux:
Peter wakes up as Simone opens the door. Being a hospice nurse to her dying father, he asks her out, but she refuses since she’s already dating someone.
Madras, India, Mohinder Suresh, 3 days ago:
Mohinder is teaching one of his classes about evolution, leading the subject to his father’s theories on human potential. After the class Mohinder hears about his father’s dead, killed as a taxi-driver in New York City. Mohinder, who heard his father on the phone 2 days before, tells Nirad that his father was convinced that he was being followed and that someone wanted to steal his research. Mohinder heads off to his father’s apartment to get his papers, convinced that he was close to finding a ‘patient zero’ in New York.
Before going trough his father’s records, Mohinder spots a pair of horn-rimmed glasses on a desk. When looking at a map on the wall he suddenly hears a phone ringing in the room ahead. The man on the phone asks for a ‘team to bag and tag’ everything. Mohinder quickly shoots a picture of the map, accidently alerting the man in the other room with the flash of the camera, and gets out.
Las Vegas, Nevada, Nicole Sanders:
Nikki strips on the internet from her garage. As she walks out, she notices something odd in a mirror. She then enters her house to help her son Micah prepare for school. As the doorbell rings she sends him over to the backdoor, glances trough the front window and then flees with her son trough the garden. Two men break into her home.
Odessa, Texas, Claire Bennett:
A teenager named Zachary is filming his friend Claire, who is wearing a cheerleader outfit, as she jumps 70-80 feet to the ground. As he runs up to her she twists her broken bones back into place and her cuts miraculously heal in mere seconds.
Peter’s Dream Sequence:
Peter lets himself fall from the building but this time we actually see him going down… head first. Just before he hits the ground, he sees Nathan, his brother, looking up at him.
New York City, Peter Petrelli:
Peter wakes up in a cab and gets out to see Nathan, his brother, who is currently running for congress. Peter tells him he thinks he can fly but Nathan, worried about the elections, doesn’t believe him. Suddenly Nathan gets a call telling him that their mother is arrested for shoplifting.
Odessa, Texas, Claire Bennett:
As they walk home, Claire feels depressed about her abnormality. She makes clear that she doesn’t want anyone to know about it and takes the tape from Zach, promising him she’ll talk to him in school the day after.
Tokyo, Japan, Hiro Nakamura:
Hiro is staring at the clock in his cubicle at work. As he concentrates, it suddenly goes back a second. Hiro runs over to his friend Ando telling him about his power before his boss drags him off. Ando thinks Hiro is making it up and returns his attention to his computer.
Las Vegas, Nevada, Nicole Sanders:
Nikki gets to hear that Micah doesn’t fit into his new school. On top of it (or more likely: the reason why), her last three cheques bounced and they won’t let her use the money from the donation she gave to get him in. Losing her temper, she grabs the principal but she quickly gets a grip of herself and walks away. As she looks at her reflection in a fishtank it seems to be looking back at her and she tells it to leave her alone.
New York City, Petrelli Family:
Nathan & Peter arrive at the police station where their mother, Angela, is held. Apparently, she stole some socks. Nathan, worried about the elections, gets mad at her and blames her behaviour on their father’s dead. He heads off to keep the incident out of the press.
Angela & Peter head out the police station, talking about Peter & Nathan’s relationship. Near the end of the conversation Peter tells his mother that he had known when Nathan had his accident, feeling it from far away. Angela slaps him in the face and walks away.
Las Vegas, Nevada, Nicole Sanders:
Nikki drops Micah off at a friend’s (Tina’s) place, telling her that she has lent money from Linderman, a mobster, and is two weeks overdue. Also she tells her that she’s seeing things, as if being watched, but not by Linderman’s guys but rather by someone she can’t see.
Odessa, Texas, Claire Bennett:
Zachary & Claire pass by a burning trainwreck. On her demand, he starts filming her as she runs in. Once inside, she sees a man on the floor and helps him to get out. A fireman notices she isn’t burned at all and Claire runs away from the scene.
Brooklyn, New York, Mohinder Suresh:
Mohinder arrives at his father’s place in New York, willing to rent it. The place is a mess, as if it had been thoroughly searched. On the floor he finds an audio tape labelled: ‘SYLAR’.
New York City, Isaac Mendez:
Isaac, a painter, is busy destroying his works, tossing black paint all over them, as Simone Deveaux walks in. He tells her that he can’t remember painting them and that he lied to her about quitting drugs. He also says the paintings are evil and goes on claiming he painted a suicide bombing 3 weeks ago which was in the paper that very morning. The numbers on the busses correspond. Determined to stop using he orders Simone to leave. As she walks out, Isaac witnesses a live broadcast on tv about the train derailment in Odessa. The television shows the same image as the painting next to it.
New York City, Nathan & Peter Petrelli:
Nathan offers Peter a job to influence the voters. Peter refuses and brings up the ‘flight’-topic again but Nathan quickly dismisses it. Peter walks out…
New York City, Peter Petrelli & Mohinder Suresh:
…and grabs a taxi. Leaning back he witnesses the eclipse. Mohinder, driving the cab, and Peter start talking about ‘being special’ which leads the conversation to Chandra’s theories on evolution.
Intermezzo:
The song ‘Eyes’ from ‘Rogue Wave’ is playing during the eclipse. We can see what some people are up to at the time:
-Zachary catches up with Claire.
-Hiro is doing gymnastics on the rooftop at work.
-Isaac is sitting on the floor in his workshop.
-Nicole is looking trough her window (at the eclipse).
Only Isaac didn’t look at it… but he painted it though.
Las Vegas, Nevada, Nicole Sanders:
As Nikki is watching the eclipse, she suddenly hears that someone is in her house. She tries to run out but a second man grabs her. Coming to collect 50,000 dollars for Linderman, one guy offers her a way to lower her debt. She has to strip, the bigger guy puts her camera on recording, but she refuses and gets knocked out by the other one… after getting a strange look from her reflection in the mirror.
Tokyo, Japan, Hiro & Ando:
Hiro is convinced that, with some training, he will be able to bend the space/time-continuum, teleporting anywhere. Ando, not believing his friend, dares him to teleport into the women’s bathroom of the bar they’re in as a joke and leaves the table to get some drinks. Hiro concentrates… and the scene is cut.
Las Vegas, Nevada, Nicole Sanders:
Nikki wakes up from Micah’s voice on the answering machine. As she looks aound the garage, she sees Linderman’s guys dead on the floor, somehow ripped apart. She grabs the videocamera, once again looking at her reflection in the mirror. It’s making a gesture to keep quiet… Nikki’s not.
New York City, Mohinder Suresh:
Peter gets a call from Simone and gets out of the taxi. The next person gets in, a guy with horn-rimmed glasses… Spotting Mohinder’s last name on his ID, he starts talking to him about it, saying that he once knew a professor Suresh in Madras. Mohinder gets out of the taxi and quickly runs away, fearing for his life.
Odessa, Texas, Claire Bennett:
Claire tries telling her mother about what she can do but gets misinterpreted.
Tokyo, Japan, Hiro & Ando:
As Ando returns with the drinks he sees two bouncers coming out of the women’s bathroom, throwing Hiro out of the bar. Ando gets into a discussion with him, still not believing his friend’s words and Hiro leaves.
New York City, Simone Deveaux & Peter Petrelli:
Peter tells Simone that he’ll quit his job. Not paying much attention, she grabs some morfine and tells him to come with her.
Odessa, Texas, Claire Bennett:
Claire tells her mother that she’s ready to know who her real parents are. Noah Bennett, Claire’s surrogate father returns from work… wearing a pair of horn-rimmed glasses.
Tokyo, Japan, Hiro Nakamura:
On the train home, Hiro sees a poster of New York and starts concentrating. When he opens his eyes, he’s in the middle of Times Square, New York.
New York City, Simone Deveaux, Peter Petrelli, Isaac Mendez:
Simone & Peter find Isaac barely conscious on the floor, he OD’d. As Simone calls 911, Peter sees a painting of himself jumping from a building, like in his dreams. Isaac mumbles the words “we have to stop it” and the camera angle reveals a huge painting on the floor. It shows a big explosion in New York.
Mohinder Voice-over:
Mohinder tells us that “they are here“, possibly not knowing themselves. We see Peter standing on the edge of a rooftop.
New york City, Peter & Nathan Petrelli:
Nathan arrives in an alley, talking on the phone with Peter. Peter, who is standing on the roof, shouts something towards his brother about his destiny and jumps over the edge. Surprisingly Nathan flies up to catch him, but alas… Peter slips and falls down.
